To deepen the impact of the Women’s Centre Greenhouse Project, Roots of Arnica collaborated closely with the Centre’s garden group to deliver two hands-on workshops focused on greenhouse gardening and food preservation. These sessions were designed to build confidence, strengthen practical skills, and offer meaningful opportunities for community connection.
Our introductory workshop on greenhouse gardening welcomed more than 15 participants. This session introduced key concepts such as soil quality, seasonal planting, and maintaining an environment that supports plant growth.
Participants used the space to explore new skills, ask questions, and share their own experiences. Many expressed interest in returning for further learning opportunities, highlighting a strong desire for continued skill-building within the community.
In response to community interest, we hosted a second, demonstration-based workshop on preserving fresh produce through methods such as drying and freezing. This session welcomed 16 attendees and was widely appreciated for its practicality and relevance—particularly for community members looking to make the most of their garden harvests and reduce food waste.
These workshops contributed not only to increased gardening knowledge but also to meaningful community connection. Participants shared that they felt more confident, more empowered, and eager to engage in future skill-building opportunities.
The Women’s Centre Greenhouse Project represents an exciting beginning for Roots of Arnica—one rooted in collaboration, community leadership, and the shared belief that growing food grows stronger futures.
